Using Turnitin in Canvas Assignments

Champlain College is upgrading to a new integration of the Turnitin Originality plagiarism detection tool for the Fall 2020 semester. Both integrations are currently enabled in Canvas. The legacy integration will be turned off on August 31, 2020.

Below are instructions for how to manually update a Canvas assignment that previously had Turnitin enabled as well as instructions for enabling Turnitin for the first time.

Editing an existing assignment with Turnitin already enabled

Step 1: Open the assignment and click Edit.

Step 2: Scroll down to the Submission Type section. If the assignment previously had Turnitin enabled, uncheck “Enable Turnitin Submissions.”

Step 3: Scroll down to the Plagiarism Review section and select Turnitin Originality from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Select whether to exclude bibliographies and quotes from the report, whether to index all submissions, and when to show the report to students. (When a submission is indexed by Turnitin, it is made available for comparison in future Similarity Reports.)

Step 5: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click SAVE.
